Pandemic Wedding: Things You Need to Look Into Before You Send Out the Invites

Spread the love

So you’ve decided to get your wedding vows despite the largely unimpeded advance of the coronavirus. While we hail you for making such a brave decision, know that you could be facing an uphill climb. Some may even say it’s a formula for a nervous breakdown.

And they could be right. Right from the get-go, weddings can be one of the most challenging events to have in a lifetime. Birthdays are benign. Why? Credit that to expectations. When people talk about weddings, they speak of a once-in-a-lifetime event. And that can really cause a lot of stress.

Now, put in the mix the intricacies of the pandemic. That can really put things to a test. But, fret not. If you really want it, finding a way should be just a matter of time. And you’re in luck. Below are some key things you need to look into before you send an official invite.

Word of warning: The last thing you want is to get infected during the wedding. So screen your attendees like your life depended on it.

Fixing the Date

We’re assuming you’re all set. Meaning, you’ve come to an agreement that you’re tying the knot no matter what.

Please understand that as we speak the coronavirus is still in full swing in America. So it’s but practical that you proceed with caution in booking your event.

Now if you’re worried you can’t set a date, worry no more. Weddings are allowed during the pandemic. So you can actually flaunt that white gold diamond wedding ring all you want. You just have to look into the fine print. Each state and each county may have different rules as to how weddings will proceed.

It’s best to contact your local registrar first to avoid complications later on.

On the 4th of July, the ban on weddings has been lifted. Then again, you’ll need to double-check with your church to see what’s allowed. There’s that statute of limitations as to the number of people that can attend. However, it’s on a case-to-case basis.

The Number of Visitors and Booking Your Reception

Isn’t the number of visitors my call? Nope, not really. This is a wake-up call for you. Depending on the state you’re in, you could be severely limited

We don’t want to rain on your parade. But since September 28th, you can only have as many as 15 people as guests at the wedding. Well, if you can do it with just the two of you, then 15 isn’t that hard a number, right?

Then again, check with the authorities where you’re to hold your wedding. In North Dakota, getting a 500-people reception is within the bounds of the law. On the other end of the spectrum, Los Angeles County will just allow you people of the same household.

As always, all guests must wear masks and practice safe distancing. This is also for your own good. Further, it would be wise to set up perimeter controls so gatecrashers are discouraged.

Reading the Fine Print

Take time to ensure you’re looking into each and every safety protocol for your wedding. Or face the consequences.

New Orleans for one is strict about enforcing coronavirus restrictions during a wedding. The city mandates you get a safety control officer for every 50 guests. The officer’s job is to enforce safe distancing and the wearing of masks.

Sometimes the list is simply exhausting. Arkansas weddings allow 100 people at the reception. Hand sanitizers are to be provided in all entrances and exits. Plus, you can’t have a buffet or a salad bar for that matter.

The Entertainment

Yup, you can still have a band or a DJ playing your favorite beats. But the musical group has to practice social distancing and therefore must stay a few feet away from each other. Well, the singer may not have to wear a mask but has to stay away from people. If you have Noel Gallagher on vocals then that’s another story.

The same holds true for your guests. Dancing is allowed, so long as people dance from a safe distance. And masks are worn.

As for alcohol, they could be consumed as a general rule. That depends again on which state you’re in. But you should limit alcohol consumption. When people get drunk, inhibitions are lost. And that means safety standards may be breached.

Definitely, your wedding is possible during the pandemic. You just have to plan it more than the usual wedding. But if you’re all set to unite, then all the challenges should be a piece of cake. And after you kiss the bride, you should live happily ever after.
