When Dorothy felt she wasn’t in Kansas anymore, it may be because she was in Spring Hill, a town which could easily feel magical.
One of the fastest-growing cities in the Kansas City metro, Spring Hill has the best of both worlds: access to urban amenities and a quiet, small-town feel. Apart from family-friendly restaurants, Spring Hill, Kansas promotes a close-knit community with fun and affordable festivities and attractions.
Seasonal Festivals
Back in 1954, residents of Spring Hill participated in horse pulls, rock concerts, parade, and street-dancing. Since then, these have become part of the Fall Festival, which is held during the last weekend of September. The three-day festival is free, and includes live entertainment, craft booths, quilt shows, and family fun runs. The festival is organized by locals, who are encouraged to attend meetings and share ideas for the event.
In the winter, on the first Friday of December, the town celebrates its annual Christmas festival, called the Hometown Holidays. Everyone is welcome to join in – kids, teens, and the young-at-heart. Every year, it is hosted by the town’s local businesses and organizations, which treat attendees with free hot chocolate. They also prepare activities including candy cane hunting, caroling, and the lighting of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree. The organizers also bring in Santa and Mrs. Claus, so revelers can take pictures with them.
Being a family-friendly town, Spring Hill’s events focus on community-building through activities, such as Daffodil Day. This event is held during the spring. Every year, the organizers invite exhibitors for entertainment. In 2018, there were martial arts demos, band performances, giant tricycle races, inflatables, soccer activities, face-painting, flower planting, and yard games. Some vendors also gave away shirts and snacks.
Destination for Golfers
In Spring Hill, golfing isn’t just for club members. If you are a golfer on a budget, you can get a private course feel for the price of a public course.
Spring Hill houses one of the state’s finest public golf courses: the Sycamore Ridge, which prides itself with its terrific layout. With 18 holes and a lush bentgrass green, this public golf course is not just the best in town, but also in the entire state. In fact, Golf Digest once considered the Sycamore Ridge as the number one public golf course in Kansas.
Spring Hill Thrill
Apart from being a family-oriented town, Spring Hill is also for the adventure-seekers. It houses the Spring Hill Aquatic Center, a water park that features a floatable walk, obstacle courses, a drop slide, diving boards, and a climbing wall. Additionally, the water park has cabanas available for rent.
The daily admission rate is just at $5 per guest, with toddlers and seniors aged 62 and above coming in for free. With a punch pass, a person can visit ten times for $40.
